Miss Elaine has been studying American Kenpo for more than ten years. After taking the initiative in her late twenties to pursue a lifelong goal to learn martial arts, she began her training under Ed Wilson, a ninth degree black belt, and Mandi Remillard, a fourth degree black belt. From the beginning, Miss Elaine has demonstrated a strong dedication to the study of American Kenpo. Prior to opening her own school, she spent most of her free time taking classes and private lessons, assisting her instructors with their classes, studying how to teach the techniques and principles, and teaching classes herself. With the support and encouragement of her instructor, Miss Elaine opened IKA in 2004.

It is extremely important to Miss Elaine to maintain her own skills through lessons, practice, and study to stay on top of her field. For this reason, she continues to take lessons from Mr. Wilson. She has also joined several organizations from which she had learned the best methods of instruction available from the top leaders of the martial arts industries. Her goal is to provide her students with the greatest instruction possible; so that she can help them achieve their goals.

As an instructor, Miss Elaine demonstrates a wide skill and knowledge base. She works hard to develop and implement age-appropriate drills, games, and activities for each focus area that she presents. Miss Elaine spends countless hours updating her lessons in order to keep them fresh and exciting.  In addition, she is incredibly skilled in breaking down techniques and teaching them to her students in ways that they can easily understand.  She is extremely patient and easily adapts her classes to suit the varied needs of her students. Miss Elaine also prides herself on teaching her students how to be self-disciplined through practice, repetition, and positive reinforcement. This research-based method of discipline has been used successfully in many top karate schools and mirrors best practices taught by school teachers around the country.

Miss Elaine’s talents are most evident in the successes demonstrated by her students. She has dedicated her life to helping her students realize their full potential and has proudly watched many matured from shy, awkward, unfocused beginners to strong, confident brown belt and junior black belt ranks. Students who once struggled now serve as role models for each new group of learners due to Miss Elaine’s expert instruction as well as their own commitment and effort. The skills and confidence these children have learned at IKA have also transferred into other areas of their lives, resulting in enhanced focus, better social skills, improved grades, and more. It is Miss Elaine’s strong leadership, nurturing instruction, and positive example that make this family-friendly school such a success.
